Profiled fabrics produced by the 3D-weaving process are characterized in that each warp yarn is connected to the adjacent warp yarn/s by the weft yarns creating a network structure. The network-like arrangement imparts unique structural integrity besides improving the mechanism of load transfer and the impact resistance. Such profiled fabrics can be produced in either straight or curved types, or even in a combination of these two types. Solid, shell and tubular types of profiled fabrics have use in manufacturing composite materials, medical implants, certain ballistic panels etc. Nandan Khokar, Profiling Performance, Pioneer of 3D-weaving technologies, Biteam
